Bangla HA was formed in 1991 to address the urgent housing needs of the local Bangladeshi community, many of whom faced significant disadvantages in housing. Many Bangladeshi families were homeless, in temporary accommodation, in overcrowded or unsuitable conditions and faced significant barriers to accessing the often inscrutable housing system and as well as public services. In response to this, concerned community members came together and formed the Bangla HA to address these urgent and unmet needs.
Bangla HA has grown into a trusted organisation that works with local authorities, and provides health education and preventative care for their area as well as housing support. Bangla HA champions the health, wellbeing, and empowerment for Bangladeshi and other Black and Minority Ethnic communities. Today Bangla HA excel in providing culturally sensitive housing support tailored to diverse communities and offer accessible and culturally relevant education and outreach as well as practical help with benefits, employment and income maximisation. Bangla HA have been awarded the Hackney Mayor’s Civic Award in 2021, and were recognised by the late Queen Elizabeth for their longstanding service and commitment to their community.
